Entries Open for HOKA Runaway Sydney Half Marathon 2023

Entries are now open for the 2023 HOKA Runaway Sydney Half Marathon, with runners set to return to the streets of Sydney on Sunday 21 May.

The HOKA Runaway Sydney Half Marathon will debut a new look, and new distances in 2023, with entries now available at https://runawaysydneyhalf.com.au/.

Previously known as The Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon, the event has been a part of the country’s running calendar since 1992 with the latest evolution of this much-loved event seeing it become Runaway Sydney.

A new identity isn’t the only update coming to the event as it celebrates its 30th birthday this May. In 2023 Runaway Sydney will take place on a revised half marathon course with a brand new 10km event now also on offer. May’s event will take in all of the best sights of Sydney, now with two distance options.

Geoff Meyer, Managing Director of Oceania for The IRONMAN Group, organisers of the HOKA Runaway Sydney Half Marathon, said that the team was looking forward to welcoming runners back to the event this year.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing a new identity to a much loved event and can’t wait to see the HOKA Runaway Sydney Half Marathon come to life this May,” said Meyer. “Over the last 29 years this event has become a firm favourite for Sydney runners and we look forward to celebrating the 30th anniversary this year with a new course and a new 10km option, which will allow more runners than ever before to be involved and be a part of the fun.

“Runaway Sydney is also joining the Runaway Marathon Series, alongside much loved events in Noosa, Queenstown and Hawke’s Bay, with all four premium, unique and welcoming running events that embrace and celebrate all that the amazing destinations have to offer,” he said. “I encourage runners to get their entry for Runaway Sydney in and I look forward to seeing them on the start line in May.”

Runaway Sydney is now alongside three incredible destination running events across Australia and New Zealand as part of the Runaway Marathon Series. The Runaway Marathon Series currently takes runners to Queenstown and Hawke’s Bay in New Zealand and Noosa in Queensland, all destinations where natural beauty, world class running, local hospitality and food and wine options make for so much more than just another running event.
